Operatives from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) on Monday arrested Frank Gashumba a city self-proclaimed inspirational speaker and government critic.
According to a source near Gashumba, he was arrested Monday evening shortly after leaving his office located along 6th street in industrial area.
It is indicated that while he was leaving office, Gashumba received a phone call from a friend who asked him for a meeting in town.
Gashumba is reported to have rushed to town for a meeting where he was picked by the waiting CMI operatives and was taken to Mbuya for interrogation and later detained.
Today Tuesday morning, CMI operatives together with police officers from Jinja road police swung into action and seized his office in Industrial area.
It is indicated that after combing through all corners of his office, his staff were ordered to vacate the premises until further notice.
The offices are currently under the 24/7 police watch.
When contacted UPDF Spokesperson Brig Richard Karemire on phone confirmed the arrest of Gashumba. “Yes Gashumba was arrested and investigations are on,” said Karemire in a text message.
Karemire added that his appearance in court martial it will determine on investigations.
Information on the ground say in 2013 and 2014, Gashumba impersonated as PS of internal Affairs and Defense and conned some foreigners billions of shillings claiming that he will acquire some police Equipment for police and the army.
It should be remembered that Gashumba was once arrested for impersonating ministry of internal affairs Permanent Secretary trying to defraud EYG Group a Turkish company dealing in fire tenders of $28m (Shs79.9billion) on pretext that they wanted to buy fire trucks on behalf of the government of Uganda.
He is also an ex-convict for conspiracy to defraud DFCU bank.
It is also suspected that Gashumba is accused of spying for the Republic of Rwanda.
Recently CMI arrested top police officers and charged them in court martial for kidnapping a former body guard of President Paul Kagame and spying for Kigali.
He currently runs a civil organization known as Sisimuka Uganda where he sensitizes Ugandans about government excesses and failures.
